ABSTRACT:
There is a long history of U.S.-Canada cooperation on
investigating, monitoring, and managing the Great Lakes, including the Detroit River
and western Lake Erie. The Detroit River-western
Lake Erie ecosystem has many long-term datasets
because of long-standing environmental problems resulting from its
manufacturing history. This indicator project: compiled and analyzed available
data on 50 indicators of ecosystem status and trends, and factors that affect
them; translated indicator trends clearly for policy-makers and managers; identified
data and knowledge gaps to better assess the state of the ecosystem; and made
all information available through websites and hard copies of reports.
