One duty of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission set forth in Article IV, section (d), of the Convention on Great Lakes Fisheries is to publish or authorize the publication of scientific and other information obtained by the Commission in the performance of its duties. As a result, the Commission strongly encourages investigators to publish the results of their Commission-sponsored research in peer-reviewed journals. Frequently, publication of research in a peer-reviewed journal occurs after the funding period for the project formally ended. The Commission will provide funding support for publication of its sponsored research both during and after project periods.
Journal Reprints and Page ChargesTo promote the publication and dissemination of fisheries information, the Commission will pay the cost of publishing Commission-sponsored research in peer-reviewed journals and books, regardless of whether the related project is current or completed. Costs include page charges and 100 reprints. To be eligible, the publication must acknowledge Commission sponsorship of the research. Investigators may not include in the budget section of their proposals costs for publication. Click here to view instructions for arranging publication funding.
DistributionThe principal investigator will be provided with 50 reprints. Investigators will be billed for additional reprints. The Commission will keep 50 reprints at the Commission offices in Ann Arbor, MI, for free distribution to the public, agencies, and other researchers. Reprints and research sponsored by the Sea Lamprey Research Program will be distributed to groups such as sea lamprey control agents and reprints from Fishery Research Program sponsored research will be made available at lake committee meetings. The Commission also promotes distribution of noteworthy scientific findings through news releases and a website (www.glfc.org).
