Chemosensory Communication Systems Research

The Chemosensory Communication research theme originally began with a focus on only chemical communication via pheromones. Pheromone research is still needed and many of the original questions posed in the research paper "Research to guide use of pheromones to control sea lamprey" published in the Journal of Great Lakes Research remain unanswered. In 2010 the pheromone theme was expanded to embrace all forms of chemical communication that may affect the behavior of lamprey, including those substances that are repellents or cause avoidance movement behavior. Addendum one to the theme "Repellents: A class of odorants that may prove useful in sea lamprey control" describes the potential for use of repellents by the control program and highlights several important research questions. The orginal research theme paper and repellent addendum are available below.
