The Cold Water Task Group (CWTG) consists
of fisheries scientists from state, provincial, federal
and university agencies conducting research on Lake
Erie. The CWTG is a sub-committee of the Lake Erie
Committee (LEC), appointed by the LEC and addressing
charges from the LEC relevant to cold water fisheries
management in Lakes Erie and St. Clair and connecting
waters.
The following are the charges to the CWTG for the
2010-2011 work year:
Coordinate annual standardized lake trout assessment among all eastern basin agencies and report upon the status of lake trout rehabilitation.
Continue to assess the whitefish fishery, age structure, growth, diet, seasonal distribution and other population parameters.
Continue to assess the burbot fishery, age structure, growth, diet, seasonal distribution and other population parameters.
Continue to participate in the Integrated Management of Sea Lamprey (IMSL) process on Lake Erie to outline and prescribe the needs of the Lake Erie sea lamprey management program.
Maintain an annual interagency electronic database of Lake Erie salmonid stocking for the STC, GLFC, and Lake Erie agency data depositories.
Continue to assess the steelhead and other salmonid fisheries, age structure, growth, diet, seasonal distribution and other population parameters.
Report on the status of Cisco in Lake Erie. Finalize a Lake Erie Cisco Impediments document.
